CELEBRATION DAY – 24th March 2012
The National Jockey Celebration Day was first held on the 24th March 2012 and is an initiative
of the Australian Jockeys Association and the Australian Racing Board, to establish a
day on the national racing calendar to:
1. Recognise the contribution that both former and current jockeys have made to the
thoroughbred industry;
2. To commemorate those jockeys who have lost their lives in riding accidents; and
3. To raise funds for the National Jockeys Trust.
Generally the NJCD will include a range of ceremonies and events such as:
1. A blessing of the track by members of the Racing Ministry
2. A minutes silence
3. A race to be named after the NJCD
4. The naming of an Ambassador in each state
5. The sale of pins to raise funds for the National Jockeys Trust
National Jockey Celebration Day remembers all Australian fallen jockeys.
All past jockeys are welcome to attend and for any details contact Craig Staples 0408913179
