WELCOME
Welcome to the new look WAJA website. With our new look identity also comes a
dedicated new Executive team with a freshly energised and driven approach to the
WAJA’s mission to:

With the retirement of our President, Bernie Ryan, the members of the WAJA voted in
a new Executive at our Annual General Meeting. Our new Executive now consists of:
Acting President – Craig Staples
Secretary – Sharon King
Committee Members –Lisa Bivemark, Shaun Meeres,
William Pike and Peter Knuckey, Greg Maker.
We have also introduced into our Executive two Non-Riding Members. They are Des O’Keeffe from the Australian Jockey’s Association and
respected Lawyer, Mark Millington.
The new committee are dedicated to bringing new ideas and a fresh outlook to the
WAJA as well as lifting the profile of all Jockeys in Western Australia. this has begun
with a revamp of our website and association identity.
The new Executive has already achieved a lot in a short time:
- We have been able to negotiate a pay-rise for the new season. This will see our current
fee per ride of $137.50 brought up to $150 per ride with a CPI rise for the 2011/12 and
2012/13 seasons. Our trial fee of $30 per ride will also be brought up to $35 per ride
with a CPI rise for the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons.
- We are in current negotiations regarding Jockeys Workers Compensation entitlements.
- We have been able to get improvements made to the lighting for track work at Ascot.
- All riders who now ride a winner at a Metropolitan track will now be interviewed post race.
- We have negotiated improvements to Jockey’s room standards at several racecourses.
- We have taken the fundraising opportunities of National Jockeys Celebration Day to
a new level.
